Overcoming Reading Difficulties - Concepts and Practices

author:

Planned by the Taiwan Association for the Learning Disabilities, edited by Wang Chiung-Chu and Chen Shu-Li.

Book Introduction:

Confirming the importance of reading may not be easy, and discovering, solving, or even preventing and overcoming reading difficulties is no easy task.

This book has eleven chapters, divided into three main parts: Foundations, Instruction, and Case Studies. The Foundations section mainly introduces the characteristics of students with reading difficulties, reading teaching models, and effective remedial reading instruction, providing readers with a broad perspective to understand that "reading difficulties" is not just a general term, but also has diverse types and remedial methods. The Instruction section focuses on the development of reading and writing skills and phonetic transcription. The text discusses components such as phonological awareness, literacy, vocabulary, and comprehension, and outlines intervention strategies including prevention, remediation, and assistive device support. The case study section takes a holistic approach, integrating assessment, teaching, and teaching materials. Through the evaluation and analysis of real-life cases and the introduction of remedial teaching materials, readers can gain a comprehensive understanding of the various perspectives presented earlier and apply them in practice.

This book is not only well-structured, but also closely integrates its concepts, teaching strategies, and practical examples. The authors of each chapter are not only among the most professional in the country on their respective topics, but also have many years of research experience in those topics. The content combines theory and practice, making it a rare work in China.
